Design and Delivery of Human Reliability Assessment Training

The Brief

Yara UK asked for some bespoke training to give members of their operations team the ability to conduct Human Reliability Assessments (HRAs) themselves.

  • I developed and delivered a 2 day course to 3 separate groups, including lots of practical exercises, discussions and videos.
  • We conducted a real HRA as an exercise incorporating a walk through on the plant. Each session was adjusted to meet the specific needs of the trainees on the day. The attendees all commented on how they would look at their work environment in a different way and not take it for granted.

The Outcome

The site is now in a position to complete their own HRAs on their Safety Critical Tasks to their schedule.

“As part of our competence system development we were required to revise our operating procedures to include human reliability task analysis.  Lorraine was pivotal to this process and although we were all at different levels of competence initially, through a well-structured training plan, Lorraine raised our level of ability so we could all carry out task analysis on our safety critical tasks.

We all found Lorraine’s training style to be very effective, she set the correct pace and was very approachable and helpful when we had questions, her knowledge and ability to help us understand is what we found most useful whilst working with Lorraine.”
