Presentation to IChemE – Hull & Humber Group

On Tuesday 30th October, I led a workshop with the group about the Smiler accident at Alton Towers in 2015. Whilst the leisure industry is massively different to the process industry, it still has operators and maintenance technicians, engineers and managers. As soon as you have people involved in making decisions and conducting safety critical tasks, you have the potential for human error. The evening stimulated lots of discussion on the design of the ride, the role of the individuals involved and the specific failings which came out of the court case.

I will be repeating a version of this presentation to Fluent Business Breakfast network at Forest Pines on 10th December where we will look at how we can learn from an incident like this to understand the potential human factors within our own businesses and how we can address them. If you are interested in learning more about this incident and participating in an open conversation, either contact me directly or book a place on: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/north-lincs-business-breakfast-10th-dec-2018-tickets-46409432863
