I was very happy to support the recent Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) event in Grimsby on 12th October. Women and girls across the region were invited to discover the opportunities that are available locally in the manufacturing and engineering sectors
in the Humber region.
Supported by the Regional Growth Fund, the Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) initiative aims to encourage women to choose a career in these industries. It was inspiring to see the range of careers that we have in this area; chemicals, oil & gas, energy, port logistics and offshore wind, amongst others, as well as all the supporting organisations which are based around the Humber.
Before the event, Kirsty Clode, Chair of WiME, commented:
“The WiME team has listened carefully to women from across the industry and the region, to find out what barriers they face when it comes to embarking on a career in manufacturing or engineering, and feel we have made progress in breaking these down. We’ve showcased the wide variety of roles available and shone a spotlight on the women who enjoy brilliant, exciting careers in these sectors. WiME has made a fantastic impact since its inception in 2016 and we hope that this October’s events are a success.
The events tie in with WiME’s #WomenLikeME campaign which gives insight and transparency into the variety of jobs available by sharing the stories of local role models.
